Separation anxiety is often how separation-related problems (SRP’s) are described by dog guardians, but not all separation issues are alike, and some other behavioural issues present similar characteristics to those seen in separation cases.

Some dogs seem to be more genetically prone and it can be related to the sociability of a breed.  There may be many reasons why separation issues start including the sex of the dog, neutering, early development, when a puppy was removed from mum and it is not unusual in those who have suffered severe trauma.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about separation disorders and some very poor advice about what to do, some of which will only create more stress and distress.  It is very important to find out what we are looking at because different issues require different types of support.

This talk will give you a better understanding of separation disorders and will then help you decide if you require further support with your canine companion.
